I cannot stop looking at the multiple tones of the wood in this bench. What an awesome use of this gorgeous material. The carpenter that made this needs some kind of award.

I love the way that this example has had some decorative designs cut into its back plank.

Many of the shelves that you will see in this article will use metal piping to as wall brackets. It creates an urban and industrial feel to the room.

If you have a large alcove – then it is probably perfect for some salvaged timber shelves. They look awesome in this example!

These salvaged timber shelves have gone a step further than just using old piping as brackets. They have actually added in a pressure valve of some kind!

Why not make a multi purpose shelf and make it into a coat hanger too? I love the heart shaped wire hooks on this one.

Another great example of using shabby chic with a reclaimed wood shelf. I love what they have going on here with the jugs too!

This contemporary design looks like it could have been made from pallet wood. A great and cheap building material!

Another great example. The raw hanging brackets that attach these shelves to wall really complement the recycled timber.

This one is a great little example. The broken wood has been burned and has created a great little unique shelf!

How about creating a wine rack? The old wine bottles on this shelf really complement the aged appearance of the wood beautifully.

I love the multi complemented example here. Lots of little trinkets can become a centerpiece of your room with a shelf like this.

Again another example of using a whole bunch of trinkets to make a reclaimed wood shelf look stunning. For some reason they seem to look great when you put a whole load of stuff on them!

I love how the dark old wood contrasts against the white wall here. The OCD like alignment of the bowls and mason jars is also a great touch!

How about something a little different. These three blocks look like they are an offcut that has been used to great effect.

I love how the grey and aged appearance of the wood has been allowed to remain in these shelves. Its a stunning effect that cannot easily be replicated by new wood.

The pipes on these shelves have gone a little crazy! The wood has almost taken a backseat here!

If you have ever worried about the load bearing capacity of reclaimed wood shelves – this image should ease your nerves a little. Those records on the shelf must have quite a bit of weight!

I love t he way that the dark wood and bright blue towels contrast in this example. A great effect!

These four little prongs move away from the floating shelf idea and become a great little addition to the salvaged wood.

This reclaimed wood shelf looks like it has got some of the original paint on from whatever it was used for before being remade into shelves. A great little way to add some character to the room.

How about using some wire to hang your shelves to the wall? There is no denying that new and modern wire does something magical when combined with the rustic worn wood of the shelves.

Some huge planks have been used in the making of this shelf!

The metal bolts that attach these shelves to wall have been made into a design feature on this shelf. Awesome idea!

The reclaimed timber of this shelf has been stained very dark to complement the black metal piping that has been used as a bracket. The white books that adorn this shelf make a great contrast!

And finally a stunning example of how a big thick and powerful plank of salvaged wood can be made to look delicate and elegant by using a couple of candles.

One of the things you will notice with many of the dining tables below is the materials that have been used for the chairs. They really change the overall look of the table massively. These cream leather chairs complement the aged timber beautifully.

The old timber that is used in these tables can look a little barren sometimes. Using a plant or a flower as a table decoration can really bring a little bit of life to the room.

This contemporary dining room looks sleek and modern despite the aged wood used.

The cracks and damage that is present in lots of reclaimed wood adds great character to the table. However when they are as large as this one – they can sometimes get in the way a little bit, which is not ideal if you are going to be eating at the table reguarly.

The dark stain on this table has created a stunning effect with the salvaged timber. The contrast between the table and chairs makes this dining room modern yet warm.

This table has benches instead of chairs. It looks incredible as it has been made from the same reclaimed wood as the table. However it could be a little uncomfortable if you are planning on using it every day?

I love the way this tables legs have been painted a darker shade than the reclaimed wood on the top. It gives a great two tone effect.

This is the longest single plank table we could find. Its hard to believe that this one plank of wood is so large!

Not all reclaimed wood dining tables have to be traditional. The legs of this dinner table have been stained in a different color (but are still made from salvaged timber) to create a stunning two tone effect.

The triangular legs of this table are incredbile – i love it!

This dinner table has been made from various sources of reclaimed wood. The original paint that was on the timber has been made into a great focal point of the table.

The old planks on this dinner table have been warped and worn over time. As you can see they have not been leveled when reused in this table. This may look quirky and awesome – but it could be come a bit of a pain if you are going to eat your dinner off of it every day!

Just look at the stunning tones that have been brought out by simply staining the timber.

Another example of how attractive the big thick planks of salvaged wood can be – look at the size of those tablelegs!

This dinner table has not been re stained at all and has been left the natural color of the aged wood. It is a great effect!

This dining room is the opposite end of the spectrum and has been stained heavily!

You can see the large long planks in this dining room table. The wood has probably been reclaimed from an old barn judging by its size.

Such history and character!

While part of the beauty of these reclaimed wood dining tables is that they show the original thick planks – it does not mean that it is the only option. This one has re milled the old wood into an intricate vintage pattern.

The dark stained wood contrasts beautifully with the crisp white walls here.

This is one of my favorites. A variety of different types of reclaimed timber have been used in this table. Individually staining different pieces with different color stains before rejoining them to make the tabletop. What a stunning dining room!

I could not decide if i should include this one. I am in love with the table, the different shades in the brown in the timber are mind blowing.. Not too keen on the chairs though.

This slab has been made into a stunning dining room table. Its high polished shine and the contemporary chairs ensure it blends in perfectly with the dining rooms decor.

And finally a stunning reclaimed wood dinner table. The color of this wood is just to die for! Long benches mean that this is probably not a good choice for every day usage. But for special occasions and dinner parties – i cannot think of anything better!

How about something a little more daring? The way these logs have been placed creates a very random and interesting effect!

This driftwood lamp has been almost made to look like a fence. And we think it looks great!

The first floor standing lamp we have seen. The curly pieces of wood that have been used in this creates a very interesting and unique look!

I love the way these logs have been placed in a criss cross pattern. It makes the shadows that are cast from the light incredibly captivating

This is a great example of a minimal driftwood lamp. The single piece of timber with a square white lampshade is great!

A single twisty branch has been used for this lamp. Part of what makes these lamps so cheap is that the designers are able to use pieces of driftwood that are unsuitable for other projects.

Again something simple and striking. This looks like it was once an old fence post before it was washed and smoothed by the power of the ocean.

While the natural color of driftwood is stunning – there is no reason why it cannot be painted. This driftwood table lamp has been painted white which creates a very unusual look. It is especially great with the natural fibers of the lampshade.

This driftwood looks like it has been lightly stained to match the yellow lampshade and yellow bulb.

The dark lampshade on this lamp is something that is reasonably unusual. Most designers opt for light and airy lampshade colors – this dark one looks awesome!

Be sure to consider using little trinkets that are from the seaside to tie your lamp into the room. These starfish are a great little example.

Another stunning lamp that has used lots of small twigs to build up a sturdy base.

How about something a little more eclectic? This lamp is simply a piece of driftwood with a bulb placed in it. You will need a very low wattage light bulb for this – as it has no lampshade!

A nice short and stocky lamp.

Combining the a driftwood table lamp with the timber wall paneling really ties the whole room together!

How about adding a little color to the natural wood with a colored lampshade – this red / burgundy example is lovely.

You can get driftwood lamps that have other materials mixed into them. The use of pebbles in this lamp is a great example of how effective the mixture of materials can be.

You can tell that this tree branch has been out in the ocean for quite some time. Just look at how smooth the timber is after being exposed to the crashing waves for decades.

We are not even sure that this is on top of the wood here. But it is breathtakingly beautiful!

I love the way that the driftwood is allowed to continue up through the top of this lampshade. The color of neutral natural fibers of the lampshade is also awesome!

A great example of how something so simple can be so effective

Just look at the shadows that are created by this lamp. It almost looks like there is an orb of magical light inside. I want one now!

This old fence post has been easily converted into a stylish lamp.

This hemp lampshade is the prefect natural fiber to complement natural unstained driftwood.

How about something a little crazy? This driftwood lamp has been coated in gold leaf! It is certainly a different effect from the usual natural colors!

This is one of my favorites. Simple and effective.

The white lampshades are really effective at bringing out the natural beauty of this wood.

How about a spherical driftwood lamp? The patterns of light that are allowed to seep through the dense driftwood shell are just incredible. Just don’t expect it to light up a room!

Again – the shadows that are created by this lamp give the driftwood base a very dramatic effect!

I love the way that this lamp has left on the original iron work that was part of the fence post before it got washed ashore.

And finally, a little extra wild card. We do not recommend using driftwood as a candle holder for safety reasons (it is very flammable!) – but this washed up log has had tea light holes cut into it – and it is stunning!

This driftwood mirror has been painted white to give a light and airy feel to the wood.

The way that this driftwood lamp catches the light and casts shadows is breathtaking.

A driftwood coffee table does not have to be made from twigs and sticks!

A great peice of driftwood furniture. This table would be the focal point of any room!

The candle style lights on this chandelier are a great way to combine the natural look of the wood with a natural lighting solution. Using actual candles however is quite a bad idea due to the nature of driftwood being very flammable!

This one for example uses actual candles. While i am sure this has been professionally made – if one of these branches ended up in the candles it could very very easily start a fire.

Now that we have the fire hazard warning out of the way lets take a look at some great ways to get the beauty of driftwood in your home

This circular chandelier has used several bits of driftwood hanging down in a traditional chandelier style. It looks truly stunning.

A nice urban industrial style chandelier. Combining the metal chain with a random looking bunch of driftwood has made this a simple yet attractive light.

The interior of these pieces of driftwood has been hollowed out to allow the wires for the light bulbs to be hidden. As you can see it is a simply stunning effect!

A different type of chandelier here. It almost looks like the roots of a tree coming through the ceiling!

Several small pieces of wood have been used to make up this chandelier. The have been lightly stained which provides a lovely contrast between the light reflecting off of the wood inside the chandelier and the color on the outside

A driftwood chandelier has not got to be fancy! in fact this basic one is one of my favorites. The combination of the wood and the metal is amazing.

The first example we have seen that has a plank of wood used instead of individual twigs and logs. It gives the feeling of something you would expect to find in an old wooden ships cabin.

There is so much driftwood on this chandelier that you can barley see t he light bulb inside. It is a shame this photo was taken in the daytime as I bet this creates some amazing shadows when at night!

The bright yellow base of this chandelier starkly contrasts against the natural light color of the timber. It has also been tiered in a typical glass chandelier fashion which as i am sure you will agree looks stunning!

Using old rope to cover the wires of your chandelier is a great way to keep the natural look which you would loose slightly if you were able to see the exposed wiring.

This contemporary chandelieris literally just a branch of a tree that has been washed ashore and had a few fairy lights intertwined within it. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best – i love this one!

This chandelier would certainly create some interesting shadows! the shadows that are cast by these awesome natural lights are something that many people tend to overlook.

You can kind of see what we are talking about here with regards to the shadows created by the wood blocking the light. It can be a great effect when used correctly.

This one is quite a mish mash! it combines a large bundle of driftwood twigs with the traditional glass beads and lampshades of a normal chandelier!

Many people don’t immediately think about using paints or stains on driftwood. While the natural beauty of the wood is stunning – it can be just as pretty painted like this one.

A beautiful sunburst style driftwood mirror. You can just imagine this hanging on the wall of a surf shack!

This is one of the thickest driftwood mirror frames we could find. It is a great way to make the mirror be the centerpiece of a room.

One of the great things about driftwood mirrors is the ability to add in other little bits and bobs you may find at the beach. On the right hand side of this mirror some old shipping rope has been intertwined with the driftwood. It certainly creates an interesting look!

Driftwood comes in many types. This one combines washed up planks and boards with twigs. Stones and seashells have also been added to the frame to give it that extra seaside feel!

Many bits of driftwood will wash up ashore with all bits of metal on them. Nails and hinges being the most common. Many people who decide to take them out – however this designer has left them in to create a rustic and raw feel to the mirror.

This mirror has had the wood placed vertically along the frame of the mirror and then sawn to create the flat cross section that we see here. A great effect that looks quite contemporary.

This large driftwood mirror combines sticks and twigs that have been washed up on the shore with a very large plank. The plank acts as a shelf on the bottom which means you can place all kinds of trinkets on it!

This is a great example of how a simple rectangle mirror can be transformed into a thing of beauty with a little driftwood.

This one is one of the largest circular driftwood mirrors we could find. The little circular and odd shaped peices that you see on the beach have been used to make this. The y are little bits that have broken off larger branches and been shaped by the ocean into these awesome little blobs!

A lovely simple example of using just planks instead of driftwood twigs.

This mirror has used different amounts of driftwood on the top and bottom compared to the sides. A little interesting twist.

Because you will usually find small twigs, it is quite easy to form shapes with it. This awesome heart shaped mirror is a great example.

Another heart shaped driftwood mirror. This time the wood has been slightly stained to make it darker. The natural bleaching of the sun makes the wood very white while it is in the ocean – so this can add a little color back into the wood if its to your liking.

Four large driftwood planks have been used to make a very simple mirror frame here.

While this mirror is also made from little bits of driftwood twigs. It has a very different effect. Instead of using many long spindly twigs, this one uses shorter stubby twigs. The overall effect is a much more “solid” mirror frame

Combined with the ocean blue color scheme of this room, the driftwood mirror becomes a great centerpiece.

Layering the driftwood to create a “direction” to the wood is a great way to slightly tame the very wild nature of this wood.

And this one is the very opposite of the last one. All different shapes and sizes of wood, making up a very rough shape. It looks great though!

Just because it is an old natural material does not mean it cannot be made into a contemporary masterpiece. Using a white timber border to “frame” the driftwood makes this a great modern take on the stereotypical driftwood mirror.

Sometimes the simplest mirror frames are the most striking. This must not have taken much time to make (compared to the more complex frames) but is very striking in his simplicity.

A tiny mirror is made into a great three dimensional piece of art with this huge thick frame.

Why not get a few mirrors in a similar style to create a recurring theme throughout a room?

The amount of natural colors that driftwood can come in is stunning. While it will almost always be bleached a little from the sun – some wood will be adrift longer than other wood. Creating a wild range of brown tones for use in these frames.

If you are really lucky you can find driftwood that has been washed ashore with markings on it. This can be used to create a great effect. I love the way this mirror is framed by the rope before being added to the timber backing.

A starfish is a great little trinket that can complement a drift wood mirror very easily.

A great example of a whole bunch of rusty metal that has been worn by the sea being turned into an awesome mirror.

And finally. A great mirror that combines all kinds of driftwood, stones, shells, and other stuff that has been washed ashore.

The typical reclaimed wood mirror is something like this big thick heavy planks looking a little weather beaten. A look that i personally love!

This mirror is a little bit less thick and rustic, but still certainly aged timber. The tones that are within the frame are stunning.

A simple and small piece of history. I really like the way the four planks that make up the frame of this mirror have been joined together.

How about a sunburst mirror made from salvaged sticks? A very natural look that can work well with a variety of decor types

This is almost a square sunburst mirror. And it is stunning! This one is made from walnut, i like to think that the darker tones on this one are natural – but i have a sneaky suspicion they have been added afterwards.

The metal corner accents on this reclaimed wood mirror are a great way to add a little extra interest if bare wood is a little to sparse for your tastes.

This 3 Dimensional frame is a stunning piece of carpentry. The salvaged timber complements the red brick wall perfectly.

One of my favorites. Certainly unusual. I have no idea how they have managed to curve this wood like this. But it is one truly stunning mirror.

Just because your mirror is made from reclaimed wood does not mean it cannot be stained to fit in with your rooms decor.

A stunning patchwork mirror. This has clearly been made from a wide range of different sources of timber.

If you already have quite a bit of natural wood in your room and want a reclaimed wood mirror – but think it will be too much with the rest of the rooms decor – try staining it. This light stain allows the age and beauty of this old wood to shine.

This mirror has been made from old reclaimed fence posts. It is certainly a natural weather beaten look – stunning!

Another patchwork mirror made by the same person who made the previous one in this style. This time a little smaller.

If you are really lucky you can find reclaimed wood mirrors that still have the paint on them from their original usage. Many old buildings had signs and slogans painted on them which can be used to striking effect when reused.

This mirror has a rather understated feel to it considering its large size and thick frame.

This mirror has been made from various types of salvaged wood. They have clearly been re stained before being made into the frame of this mirror – and it looks awesome!

Love the beach? Well thousands of old beach huts are reclaimed each year, many were painted in these awesome pastel blue and yellow and white colors.

The little votive candle adds a bit of color to this mirror – the issue with reclaimed wood is that is can occasionally look a little too dark and rustic on its own. Something like a flower or a candle really brings the whole thing to life!

Another awesome mirror made in a beach style. Perfect for something like a bathroom maybe?

This untreated wood is something very special indeed. It is incredible how much interest and depth can be made by combining different shades of wood.

Another awesome jigsaw style mirror, combining unstained wood with painted wood to give a distressed and interesting appearance.

We love the use of iron work in reclaimed wooden furniture here at pats color. This is no exception and is STUNNING!

A light white stain has allowed this mirror to look fresh and reasonably contemporary while still retaining the antique charm of reclaimed wood.

Looking for a colorful salvaged wood mirror? How about something like this! Even though the stains on this wood are almost certainly not original it does not detract from this AWESOME mirror.

How about getting a salvaged coat hanger and turning it into an awesome functional mirror? Who would not want this in their hallway!?
