The craze for using reclaimed wood for furniture is growing exponentially year upon year. Every month there seems to be a new type of old timber that is being stripped down and reused for furniture. Barnwood was one of the first types of salvaged wood to be singled out specifically for its beauty.

The thing that makes barnwood a great choice for furniture construction is the fact that it is so darn common! Thanks to the huge building boom that happened within the United States, barns are just about everywhere across the country. And as time goes on – these barns become dilapidated and unsafe. While it is a terrible shame to loose some of these historic and inspiring buildings there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The reuse of the material ensures none of the barns timber will go to waste.

As you will see in the list below there is no limit to what type of furniture can be made from barn wood. It is usually super strong and super durable. The fact that it has already acclimatised to the natural environment means it is even more rugged than when it was first used. And of course this is not the only benefit – you get the time aged, historic beauty that this stunning material is famous for.

Just about any type of decor can accommodate barnwood furniture, from traditional vintage rooms to contemporary modern marvels. Just because the wood is old does not mean the design has to be dated. Take a look for yourself below to see what we mean!

A great little barnwood table made from many different sources. The different colors have been used to great effect herre

This is a great first example of how barnwood can be used in a traditional vintage style setting. The big clunky door catch and rustic style decorations really transform the look of this room.

Extending dining room tables are a must have for people with large extended families. This great example shows how barnwood can be used to create extending tables. Many other types of material used to make these tables can leave the extended section feeling flimsy. Just look at how solid this one looks!

Combining the rustic aged barnwood with super clean white contemporary style chairs gives a modern feel to this rustic material.

For all its beauty barnwood can sometimes look a little bland in some rooms. Adding a bright little splash of color like these flowers can be a simple but astonishingly transformative way of adding a little interest.

This table has a bench made out of the same material which is a great little way to add a little quirk to the room.

the range of colors and tones in this piece are simply astonishing. You really cannot fake the genuine time aged appearance of this awesome material.

Are you a fan of industrial urban style decor? Well check out what has been done to this table. The old rusty metal complements the aged barnwood perfectly.

Candles are another great way to soften the strong and bold appearance that is inevitable with thick beams of barnwood. All the beauty without any of the harshness.

a great example of how sometimes the simple pieces can be the best. This no nonsense table and chairs set proves that simple is stunning.

The large clunky beams on the door of this bed side table are the perfect complement to the barnwood. The iron hinges are another great little addition. Who would not want this beautiful piece of furniture in their bedroom!

Wow! what a combination! The barnwood really blends in with the rustic log cabin walls and hardwood floors. This is a bedroom we can all aspire to!

I am unsure if the chairs are made from barn wood in this example. But the awesome gun cabinet certainly is (if gun cabinets are your thing!). You could just as easily fill this display case with any other manner of things if not!

We love the way that the big blue plate on this dresser becomes a focal point. Its worn rustic appearance really works very well with the old wood.

Staining timber from barns is a common choice as it amplifies the imperfections in the wood. But there is absolutely no reason why this needs to be the case. A simple light whitewash gives this rustic piece of furniture a great fresh and light feel to it.

Staining timber from barns is a common choice as it amplifies the imperfections in the wood. But there is absolutely no reason why this needs to be the case.

The material that this bed and table combo have been made from is clearly from the same building.

Bianco Romano granite is a stone that is popular for its icy white, creamy colors. Its stunning patterns and veining make it a great choice for kitchen countertops and backsplashes. It is quarried in Esprito Santo, Brazil and is occasionally called Romano white granite.

From afar this stone has a very light and bright appearance. Its stunning icy white bedrock catches the eye and demands attention. Its appearance from a distance is not very uniform and you are able to make out its gorgeous grey marbling and veins.

When you get a little closer however a whole range of others colors and minerals become clear. The ice white bedrock looks just as bright as it did from afar and is a stunning pristine base for the rest of the colors in this stone. This bedrock will usually make up anywhere around 50% to 70% of the stones overall surface area.

Such a pristine kitchen!

The stone is covered in stunning grey mineral deposits. These minerals are usually a light and pale grey in color (but they can be very light – almost as white as the bedrock). They are the dominating feature of this stone and can make up between 30% and 60% of a stones overall surface area. They are usually found in long winding veins that can be pencil thin or a few centimetres thick.

Dark grey minerals are also present in most slabs. These dark grey minerals are much less common than the light grey ones and will make up around 5% of the stones overall surface area on average – although in some slabs they can occasionally be much larger.

A great close up of some bianco romano countertops.

Light brown minerals are also present. These can range from a very pastel pale brown color through to a medium brown in color. They can make up between 1% and 10% of a stones overall surface area and they add a little interest to the white and grey “monotone” colors.

     data-ad-format="link"></ins>

There are finally dark brown and red patches throughout the stone. These can be either in small isolated mineral “islands” or they can be in long winding veins. They range in color from a brown / burgundy color through to a peach color. They can make up anywhere between 1% and 10% of a stones overall surface area.

The silver faucets really work better than i expected with these countertops.

As you may have guessed from the descriptions above there is quite a range of variation possible in different slabs of this stone. Some slabs can look very white and pristine with minimal dark browns and dark greys. Others can be quite busy in appearance with large dominating black and red mineral veins. It is very important to personally inspect a slab of this granite before you commit to purchasing it. If at all possible we recommend that you view it in person as the light color variations can be deceptive in photographs.

This granite is also known to stain easily (something that many stone vendors will not tell you). Leaving acidic products on the countertops for too long can create a green tinge to the granite.

I love the stunning grey veins in this piece.

This is unfortunately very noticeable due to the clean white and grey appearance of the stone and can really ruin a countertop. Just make sure that you wipe up any spills in a timely manner, and if possible use a specialized granite cleaner and you should be ok.

On the plus side the very light color of this stone combined with its patterns means that it hides fingerprints and dirt easily. So aside from wiping up spills pretty quickly you will not have a huge amount of additional cleaning to do just because your countertops are made from granite.

A great feature of this granite is that it looks reasonably similar in rooms with and without lots of natural light. The grey veins may be a little less pronounced in darker rooms and the red minerals may seem a little darker and browner – but overall it will look reasonably similar.

How about using this awesome granite in the bathroom?

How Much Does Bianco Romano Granite Cost?

This is a mid-range granite. For a 3cm thick slab of Bianco Romano granite you will pay roughly $35 to $45 per square foot. A 2cm thick slab will cost around $20 to $30 per square foot.

The beveled edges to these countertops are a great way to increase the luxurious feel even more.

When you combine Bianco Romano countertops with white kitchen cabinets the overall effect is incredibly elegant and luxurious. The white cabinets and the white bedrock of the granite flow and blend together magnificently. The light grey minerals provide a subtle accent to the white combination – with the darker minerals providing a little bit of contrast and depth to ensure things do not look a little to plain. My person opinion is that I LOVE slabs that are mainly grey and white with a minimal amount of darker minerals in it (when this granite is used with white cabinets). The pure flowing pristine effect is something I am a sucker for!

When combined with natural wood or medium stained cabinet’s Bianco Romano countertops can slightly contrast against the wood. However I would personally say that the color combination is more complementary rather than contrasting.

See the large black mineral vein – many people regard this as a defect in the granite.

The countertops are certainly prominent but they do not feel “forced” on the viewer. It seems to feel like an elegant and natural progression that creates a surprisingly warm and natural feel to the room.

     data-ad-format="link"></ins>

And finally when you use Bianco Romano countertops with dark kitchen cabinets they are at their most prominent. The strong and stark contrast is not something to be underestimated and can be used to a very striking effect. The long winding veins ensure a natural and classy feel to the contrast and the darker minerals are allowed to pop a little more – brought out by the darker cabinet colors.

The white cabinets and pine flooring are a great combination with these countertops

Regardless of what color cabinets you have we recommend that you consider also acquiring a Bianco Romano splashback too. When viewed up at eye level the stunning patterns in this subtle stone are at their most visible and they really tie the whole room together. In my opinion it just makes a room feel a little more uniform and “complete”.

New Venetian Gold granite is a stone that needs no introduction and is renowned for its stunning creamy golden tones. It is quarried in Brazil and is occasionally called just “Venetian Gold” granite. Let’s take a look at what makes this stone so popular.

From afar this stunning stone has an overall creamy gold appearance. There will usually not be any large mineral deposits visible from this distance and the overall effect will be a quite uniform color that appears to be slightly mottled.

Upon closer inspection however a whole range of colors and minerals are present that make up this granites characteristic appearance.

I love the two tone cabinets in this kitchen

The bedrock of the stone is what gives it its overall golden color. Its color can vary slightly and will range from a light creamy color through to a true golden color. The bedrock makes up most of this stones mass and will on average cover anywhere between 60% and 80% of a slabs surface area.

Dotted around the bedrock are stunning little deposits of white quartz. These little deposits are usually between 2cm and 4cm in diameter but can be as large as 6cm in diameter in places. They blend in with the creamy bedrock perfectly and give the stone an elegant sparkle and shine making your countertops feel very luxurious. On average these white quartz deposits can make up anywhere between 5% and 15% of the stones surface area.

A great modern and warm kitchen

There are an abundance of black minerals present in the stone too. These little black minerals contrast against the cream and white colors to create a stunning effect. They are usually found in small isolated “islands” but can also be found in small vein like structures too. The black minerals will make up around 10% to 15% of the stones surface area.

     data-ad-format="auto"></ins>

Grey minerals will also be present in all slabs. They can range in color from a very light grey that is almost white – through to a medium grey in color. They are less common than the white quartz and will make up between 5% and 10% of a stones mass on average. These awesome little minerals help the white black and cream tie together to create a flowing feel to the stone – despite containing some highly contrasting colors.

It looks great with dark cabinets too!

And finally the little cherry on top – the stunning red minerals. These little red minerals are usually a burgundy color but can occasionally be found in slightly lighter colors. They are the rarest of all the minerals in New Venetian Gold and will make up less than 5% of the stones overall surface area. They add a little splash of color into the neutral colors of the stone – simply awesome.

Love it!

There is said to be a medium amount of variation within New Venetian gold Granite. The amount of grey and black minerals that are present is usually the main factor that varies in-between slabs. This can result in some slabs looking slightly darker and more mottled / patterned than others.

While we love both extremes and everything inbetween – be sure you check your slab before you commit to having it made into countertops / backsplashes / flooring etc. etc.

The white tiles are a great alternative to a New Venetian Gold splashback

This granite is super strong and super durable. It is not commonly known to stain easily and can withstand many years of careful usage. Its light color and patterned appearance will hide fingerprints and dirt reasonably well – which means less cleaning compared to darker granites (always a good thing right!)

You may notice that this granite looks different in rooms that have different lighting conditions. Despite the stones overall appearance obviously looking darker in a darker room – the main thing that will vary is the little red minerals. In darker rooms they will seem almost black or brown – which is a shame as they are really a stunning little addition to the stone. So we recommend that this granite is used in rooms with lots of natural light to get the full effect – or at least invest in additional lighting if you have a dark kitchen.

Such an awesome kitchen!

How Much Does New Venetian Gold Granite Cost?

This is a mid-range granite. For a 3cm thick slab of New Venetian Gold granite you will pay roughly $30 to $40 per square foot. A 2cm thick slab will cost you in the region of $20 to $25 per square foot.

I love how these countertops complement the dark stain on the cabinets.

The great thing about this granite is that it seems to blend in with all types of kitchen décor.

For example. When you combine New Venetian Gold countertops with dark cabinets you would perhaps expect the difference in color between the countertops and the wooden cabinets to be quite a strong and stark contrast – as they are obviously very different shades. While there is a slight contrast. The black and grey minerals soften the contrast creating the illusion of a much more complementary and flowing kitchen.

With white cabinets the room will feel even more flowing as the cabinets color and granites color are naturally complementary. They are slightly understated here but still provide an elegant and interesting accentuation to your white cabinets.

Oh my!

We love New Venetian Gold countertops when they are combined with natural wood stained cabinets. The earthy creamy tones of the countertops blend in perfectly with the light brown tones of the cabinets. The overall effect is an almost seamless transition from cabinet to countertop – which creates a very natural, inviting, and homely feel to the kitchen (while keeping a great feeling of luxury). A truly stunning combination.

     data-ad-format="auto"></ins>

But don’t resign this granite to be just used in countertops! When you use New Venetian gold Granite as a splashback the awesome effect it creates cannot be underestimated. The stunning elegant patterns of the stone look great at eyelevel and massively increase the sense of luxury in a kitchen for a minimal additional cost.

Giallo Ornamental granite is a gorgeous stone that is known for its golden creamy tones. It is quarried in southern Brazil and is occasionally called Giallo Santo granite. Let’s take a look at what makes this granite so popular in the kitchen.

From afar this stunning stones overall color is its characteristic creamy color. It looks quite uniform from a distance and you cannot really see any large veins or mineral deposits. However you are able to see that the slab is mottled and littered with additional details – which invites closer inspection.

Up close to the stone you are able to see that despite the stones overall creamy color – the bedrock of the stone is actually white. This white can vary slightly in color from pure white through to a very light grey. It will on average make up between 30% and 50% of the stones overall surface area and is a great neutral and light backdrop to the rest of stunning minerals in this stone.

See how they blend into the room seamlessly with these wooden cabinets?

What gives Giallo Ornamental its stunning color is the abundance of golden minerals that are present. These minerals are usually a lovely light cream color and can occasionally be as dark as a light honey color. They will make up around 40% to 50% of a stones surface area on average and complement the white bedrock beautifully.

Dotted around the stone are an abundance of dark brown minerals. More often than not these brown minerals can be so dark that they appear to be black – but they are actually brown. They are usually found in very small deposits that are less than 1cm in diameter and will make up around 5% to 10% of a stones overall surface area.

Such a stunning stone!

To tie the black minerals into the white quartz there is a stunning array of light grey quartz in the stone. The grey quartz will make up around 5% to 10% of the stones surface area on average and can vary in color. It can be only slightly lighter than the white bedrock through to a soft and light grey color.

There is said to be a medium amount of variation in this granite. The main thing that will differ is the amount of brown minerals and the color of the bedrock. Some slabs can have a more golden bedrock and others can have a creamy bedrock – altering the overall effect of the stone.

A great example!

The dark brown minerals that are present can be abundant or they can be sparse. These two main factors combined mean you can have slabs that are quite dark and heavily patterned – or you can have slabs that are light and airy that look much more uniform. In reality the difference between these two extremes is quite slight – but we do recommend that you inspect any slab of this granite before you purchase it.

Another great giallo ornamental bathroom

This granite does not vary that much in rooms with different lighting conditions and is well suited to rooms with and without much natural light.

How Much Does Giallo Ornamental Granite Cost?

One of the main things that attracts people to this granite (apart from its beauty!) is its price. It is a low end granite and a 3cm thick slab of Giallo Ornamental granite will cost roughly $30 to $40 per square foot. A 2cm thick slab should cost around $20 to $25 per square foot.

A great kitchen island

When you combine Giallo Ornamental countertops with dark kitchen cabinets there is a slight contrast between the cabinets and countertops. However this contrast is really quite soft and is not as strong as you would initially expect with a light granite like this. The darker minerals and the creamy bedrock allow them to blend in slightly. This means they will still be very prominent in your kitchens décor – but will not feel too out of place.

Who would not want this kitchen!?

Strangely enough Giallo Ornamental countertops kind of contrast a little with white cabinets too. And while the overall effect is much more flowing and elegant than with dark cabinets – the lighter cabinets make the stone look darker in comparison to dark cabinets. We hasten to add that this does not make them look “dark” overall, and you will still have a lovely light accent to your cabinets.

How about using this awesome granite in the bathroom?

When combined with wooden cabinets that have a light or medium stain the golden earthy tones become one with the cabinets. The overall effect is very natural and flowing. The countertops are at their least prominent here as they are almost taken in by the cabinets. It creates a very subtle yet incredibly luxurious feel to the room which we love.

A couple of other granites are available that are great alternatives to Giallo Ornamental and while they all are slightly different we highly recommend you take a quick look at them.

Yellow River Granite is a complex stone that is loved for its detailed and mesmerizing patterns. It is quarried in Southern Brazil and is occasionally called Golden Ridge Granite and Golden River Granite. Its stunning golden yellow colors make it a great choice for kitchen countertops and splashbacks. Lets learn a little more!

As this stone has quite a high level of variation within it and it can have a variety of appearances when viewed from afar. It will generally be somewhere between a light golden cream and a warm honey yellow color overall. Its appearance will be incredibly busy and many long mineral veins and complex mineral deposits will be easy to spot even from afar.

Just look at those blues!

Despite it being mainly hidden by the vast amounts of mineral deposits that are present in the stone the bedrock of this granite is actually a very light cream. It can vary slightly in color occasionally appearing to be a light honey color in places.

Large patches of a light brown mineral make up the bulk of this stones mass. They can range from a very light brown through to a muddy chocolate brown in places. These minerals can vary in size from small isolated patches through to long winding veins that cover the entire length of the slab.

You can see why this granite is in such high demand

To complement the light brown minerals there are also some copper or honey brown minerals. These are usually much less frequent than the light brown minerals and can also be found in long winding veins or little mineral “islands”.

The most striking color present in this granite is without doubt the awesome blue minerals. These minerals are usually a light deep blue color that has tones of grey. – But they can occasionally be a very deep navy blue and sometimes a light grey blue. They add a great splash of color to the whites, browns, and creams in the granite and are really quite stunning indeed.

This slab has a large amount of golden mineral deposits.

White quartz minerals are also scattered throughout the stone. These little crystals are almost lost in the complex swirling patterns and strong colors of the stone. However when the light glistens off of them they create a stunning sparkle and shine to the stone which adds an additional sense of luxury – to an already luxurious stone.

Occasional little veins and spots of a black mineral will also usually be present. This is the least common mineral in the stone and it usually appears in thin small veins.

I personally think this granite needs to be used in rooms that do not have a huge amount of other patterns in – like this wallpaper.

This granite has been classified as having a very high level of variation. When we write these guides we usually like to give a rough approximation of how much of the stones surface will be covered by all the minerals we list. Well unfortunately with a granite as diverse as this one it is not really possible and any figures we could give would be guesses at best.

I love the long red mineral veins in the bottom right of this picture.

You can be certain that the stone will have an overall creamy golden color – but apart from that the rest is anyone’s guess. Huge veins of the blue mineral can dominate a slab where as others can have nearly none. Some slabs can have none of the dark brown mineral and others can have so much of it that the stone looks more gold than cream. And this is just the tip of the iceberg…

Yes please!

All we can really say is that it is imperative that you inspect a slab of this granite before you purchase it. A photo will possibly be good enough – but if at all possible you should really make every effort to see it in person.

Incredible!

To add to the confusion, depending upon the mineral content of your slab and its appearance – it can look very different in rooms with different lighting conditions. Darker rooms will generally make the light browns and the bedrock seem more uniform and will make the darker browns more pronounced. The blues will seem more grey and the whites will be slightly lost among the bedrock. These are not disastrous differences – but just bear it in mind. The brighter your kitchen, the more exotic and pronounced your countertops or splashback will feel.

One great thing about this granites light color and complex patterns however is that it is exceptionally good at hiding fingerprints and dirt. You will not need to do any of the additional cleaning that is occasionally associated with granite countertops. It is not known to stain very easily and will not scratch or chip providing it is treated with care.

How Much Does Yellow River Granite Cost?

Due to its exotic appearance and stunning beauty this is a granite that is in very high demand – and as such is priced as a premium granite. A 3cm thick slab of Yellow River Granite will cost you between $65 and $75 per square foot. A 2cm thick slab will cost around $50 to $60 per square foot.

How about using this granite in the bathroom? This shower is mind blowing!

Again due to the wide variation in this granites appearance it is hard to give our opinions on what types of kitchen décor it will complement! Below are our rough approximations of how the room will feel – but your best bet is to look around at some pictures online. Take a look at stone vendors websites to ensure you are actually seeing the correct granite as many people mislabel their images and doing a google image search may not be accurate (its good, but not that good!)

With white cabinets you can be sure that the countertops will complement the white wood and be a great addition to your kitchen. The bedrock will not blend in and will almost slightly contrast with them.

With natural wood or medium stained cabinets the bedrock will blend in and flow with cabinets and allow a natural and flowing feel to the room.

When you combine Yellow River granite with dark cabinets they will again slightly contrast and slightly complement the cabinets colors. They will be quite pronounced as the countertops will be lighter than the cabinets – but should tie in slightly thanks to the darker minerals.

Ubatuba granite is a stunning dark grey stone that looks as exotic as it sounds. It is quarried in northern Brazil and is occasionally called Bahia Green granite and Labrador Green granite. Its stunning colors and mineral deposits make it a great choice for countertops in a wide range of kitchen décor types – lets learn a little more…

From afar this granite looks dark grey in appearance. Its stunning deep color looks reasonably uniform. While you are unable to see the details – you are able to see that there are mineral deposits that give an overall mottled effect.

As you get closer you are able to see the awesome little details that make this such a popular granite. The stones bedrock is a deep black color. It will make up around 40% to 60% of the stones overall surface area and provides a great backdrop for the rest of the dramatic colors given by the granites mineral content.

The most prominent mineral in this granite is a deep dark green mineral. It is reasonably frequent throughout the stone and can make up anywhere between 30% and 60% of the stones surface area. These green mineral deposits will usually be found in individual patches instead of long winding veins and are usually distributed around the stone reasonably evenly. They are usually a dark earthy green color, but can occasionally be found in slightly lighter shades. The green is only slightly darker than the bedrock which creates a great subtle and flowing effect throughout the stone.

What makes this granite truly special is the gorgeous golden mineral veins that run through it. These gold minerals can make up between 5% and 10% of the stones overall surface area. They are usually found in very fine interconnecting veins and small mineral deposits. They complement the dark green and black colors within in the stone impossibly well and are a truly perfect accentuation.

Littered throughout the stone will also be white quartz deposits. These can make up between 10% and 20% of the stones overall mass. They are usually quite small in size and rarely exceed 5cm in diameter. They add a great glisten and sparkle to the stone adding an even greater sense of luxury to an already luxurious stone. They also help brighten the stones overall appearance stopping it from become a little too dark for many peoples tastes.

Ubatuba granite is said to have a low level of variation. This means that any two slabs will look reasonably alike. Obviously they will not be identical and natural variations will occur – but generally speaking you can be pretty certain the slab you end up buying will look like most of the others you have seen. This being said – we always recommend you view your slab before you purchase it (a photograph will do with a low variation granite like this one).

As it is a dark granite it can be prone to showing up fingerprints a little more than lighter stones. The intricate patterns in this stone help hide them slightly – but you may need to do a little more cleaning than you are perhaps used to. However on the plus side Ubatuba granite is a very strong and durable stone and is not known to stain or scratch particularly easily.

This granite does vary in appearance in rooms with different lighting conditions. In darker rooms the granite will take on a much more black appearance overall. The dark green minerals can become slightly lost within the stone and the golden veins will not be given much room to glisten and shine. The opposite is true for rooms with large amounts of natural light – the greens will be more visible and the golden veins will be much more prominent.

How Much Does Ubatuba Granite Cost?

This stunning stone is a mid-range granite – for its stunning beauty we think it is very well priced. For a 3cm thick slab of Ubatuba granite you will pay between $45 and $55 per square foot. A 2cm thick slab will cost you roughly $35 – $40 per square foot.

We especially like Ubatuba granite countertops when they are used in a kitchen that has dark cabinets. The dark black bedrock of the stone ensures a great flowing and almost understated look. The green minerals become more pronounced as they are set against cabinets that are slightly darker than them. The golden minerals also become more apparent due to their contrast with the rest of the room. We highly recommend you look at getting an Ubatuba splashback if you have dark cabinets. Seeing the patterns of this stone at eye level is something that should not be overlooked.

Just because it looks great with dark cabinets does not mean it’s not good with light ones! When combined with white kitchen cabinets this granite takes on a much more prominent role in the kitchen. The dark greens and black contrast starkly with the cabinets and create a very strong effect. The light quartz and golden minerals are your friend here and they help to soften the appearance slightly ensuring the effect is not too clinical and contemporary.

Peacock green granite is a great alternative to Ubatuba and we highly recommend that you take a look at it if you like this stone.

Overall this is a great stone that is reasonably priced considering its beauty.

Azul Aran granite is a stunning complex stone that has a huge amount of variation. It is quarried in northern Italy and is not commonly known by any other industry names. It’s great for countertops – let’s take a look shall we..

From afar this stone has an overall light grey color. It is not very uniform in its appearance and large mineral deposits and veins will usually be visible.

Upon closer inspection you begin to see the real beauty of this stone. Despite its overall grey color, you are able to see that the bedrock of this stone is in fact white. This white bedrock can differ in tone slightly – it is usually a pure bright white, but can occasionally be very light grey in places. It can make up anywhere between 30% and 70% of the stones overall mass.

Grey mineral veins are present in all slabs of this granite. They can vary in size and color but usually will make up around 30% and 70% of the stones overall mass. They are usually light grey in color but can actually be a medium grey in places. They can be found in long winding veins or in isolated patches – and their color complements the white bedrock beautifully.

Dotted around the stone are also light brown mineral deposits. These brown minerals are less frequent than the grey minerals and can make up between 10% and 30% of a stones overall mass. They can range in color from a medium brown, through to a light brown (which is more common).

Also present in the stone are grey quartz deposits. These quartz deposits are a slightly different color to the grey minerals and have a different appearance in terms of their texture. They are much less common and make up less than 5% of the stones surface area on average.

And finally scattered around are very tiny white quartz deposits. These little minerals are not really visible as they are hidden by the complex patterns. However you will be able to notice them when they catch the light and sparkle – they make this stone feel very luxurious indeed.

This granite is rated as having a medium level of variation. While all aspects of the stone can vary in-between slabs – the amount of white and grey is the main thing that will change. Some stones will have a large amount of the grey minerals and others will have much less. This can really create slabs that are so different they could almost be called different names. One slab can be much darker and greyer than the other. So be sure to inspect any slab you are thinking about buying before you commit to the purchase.

This granite is not known to stain or scratch easily and is considered to be a very tough stone. Its light colors and complex patterns will hide fingerprints and crumbs reasonably well so you will not have a whole bunch of additional cleaning to do.

Azul Aran is also known to have very different appearances depending upon the rooms lighting conditions. In bright and well lit rooms the stone will appear lighter as the white bedrock is given more chance to shine and the quartz crystals will be sparkling more. In darker rooms the white will seem much darker and the grey will begin to dominate slightly creating a much more somber overall effect. So if you have your heart set on a white and bright granite, but have a dark kitchen – you may need to invest in additional lighting to get the full effect.

How Much Does Azul Aran Granite Cost?

This is a mid-range granite. A 3cm thick slab of Azul Aran granite will cost you in the region of $40 to $50 per square foot. A 2cm thick slab will cost around $30 to $35 per square foot.

We love Azul Aran granite countertops when they are combined with white kitchen cabinets. The white bedrock and light grey minerals almost blend in with the cabinets – but the countertops are just dark enough to provide a slight accentuation to them. It creates a very natural, light, and airy feel to the room with an overriding sense of luxury thanks to the small white quartz crystals.

When used with dark cabinets the stone will obviously be much more prominent in the room. As all the colors in this granite are light the contrast between the countertops and the cabinets will be quite stark. This can be used to great effect to create a professional and “masculine” feel to the kitchen.

If you have a slab that has a large amount of brown minerals in it combining it with a medium stain on your cabinets can create a great effect. The stone will appear to be more grey and brown than white – which results in a complementary, and natural “earthy” feel to your kitchen.

Luna pearl granite is an awesome grey and white stone that has been around for quite some time now (and is as popular today as it ever was). It is quarried in Spain and is occasionally called Bianco Sardo granite.

This is a great stone that is commonly used in kitchen countertops. From afar this stone looks light grey in appearance and looks reasonably uniform. There are no large mineral deposits that can be seen, but the overall effect is certainly a patterned and mottled one.

Upon closer inspection you are able to see that the bedrock of this stone is a stunning pure brilliant white. It can make up between 40% and 50% of the stones surface area and is incredibly uniform in its color with nearly no variation.

Littered around the stone are loads of small grey mineral deposits. They can be a medium to light grey in color and rarely exceed 5cm in diameter. They are abundant throughout the stone and can make up between 30% and 50% of the stones overall surface area.

Also dotted around the stone are several black mineral deposits. They do not really vary in color and are always a deep pure black. They are usually smaller in size than the grey mineral deposits and will usually be around 1cm to 3cm in diameter. They will make up around 10% of the stones overall surface area and are a great contrast to the pure white bedrock.

A light brown or light peach color mineral will also usually be present. These minerals can make up anywhere between 10% and 30% of the stones overall surface area and are about the same size as the grey mineral deposits.

This granite is said to have a medium level of variation. The main variant within the stone is the light brown minerals. They can be quite abundant or they can be nearly non-existent. They can be very light brown that is only slightly different in color from the grey minerals – or they can be a vibrant pastel peach color. The grey, black, and white minerals will usually be the same in every slab – they will just differ slightly in their frequency.

Thanks to its complex patterns and light colors this granite will not show up fingerprints or dirt especially easily and will look great without any additional cleaning. It is a resilient granite and will not stain or scratch easily.

This stone will look a little different in rooms with different lighting conditions. In darker rooms the grey minerals will blend in with the bedrock a little more and the stone will take on a more uniform but darker appearance. In rooms with loads of natural light the white bedrock will be much more pronounced and the effect will be brighter and the patterns will be much more pronounced.

How Much Does Luna Pearl Granite Cost?

One of the main things that attracts people to this granite is its incredibly low price. For a 3cm thick slab of Luna Pearl granite you will pay around $25 to $35 per square foot. A 2cm thick slab can be as cheap as $15 to $20 per square foot.

When you use Luna Pearl granite with white cabinets the granite is a great little accentuation to the cabinets. It complements the white cabinets and creates an interesting yet natural feel to the room. The overall effect is incredibly flowing and its beauty does not feel “forced”.

     data-ad-slot="7036056236"></ins>

When combined with dark kitchen cabinets you would expect the contrast to be quite stark – but this is not the case and it flows beautifully. The grey and black minerals almost make the white bedrock take a backseat and ensure the countertops feel right at home.

If you like this granite we recommend you check out Azul Platino granite or imperial white granite – which are both stunning stones with a similar appearance.

Many people think that polished concrete floors are decor choices that should be left to commercial buildings and have no place in the home... Well we are here to try and change your mind - Take a look at this guide to find out more about this strong, beautiful, and cheap material!

Polished concrete is a decorative finish which is applied to a concrete surface, particularly an exposed concrete floor, through the addition of a densifier which is then followed by a grinding process to achieve the final result. It is a great and popular alternative to other kinds of flooring such as timber or tile, because it is quite cost effective, generally working with already existing slabs, as well as more resistant than other materials, providing an end result similar to that of polished granite or marble floors. It may be troublesome to achieve sometimes, but it is generally a gamble which tends to pay off in the long run.

There are two main ways to achieve a polished concrete floor: by applying the grinding process to a slab which has already been laid, or by adding a new slab. While the former is more sustainable, as it works with what already exists, it can be more expensive if the slab isn’t in good condition and it leaves you with less room for creativity, as the concrete which is already set is virtually impossible to modify or customize.

Laying a new slab, however, allows you to pick between colors, as well as finishes and decorative touches, such as grinding to show the stones beneath the slab, or adding your own materials before it dries. The final finish will depend on the slab and grinding grades, generally becoming shinier and smoother the finer the grinding used, which is applied progressively, is.

Polished concrete flooring has a number of benefits when compared to other flooring options. First of all, it is more cost effective than most, especially as it needs slightly less treatment and maintenance.

     data-ad-format="link"></ins>

Aside from that obvious benefit, concrete offers many others, such as the ability to create a uniform, shiny look, which can easily transition between rooms and to the outside, ease for cleaning, as once sealed, it only needs to be wiped down weekly, and the ability to enhance light and warmth, thanks to its reflective features, which is excellent as it eliminates the need for extra lighting if the room benefits from a great deal of natural lighting already, and also for those who are planning on installing heated floors, as it conducts the heat nicely, thus enhancing the effect.

Also, polished concrete floors are long-lasting, not prone to cracking or breaking, and they are also more sanitary and appropriate for those who suffer from allergies, for whom carpeting, for instance, can be a nightmare to live with.

The fact that a non-slip coat can be added to polished concrete flooring only enhances its versatility, allowing it to be used both indoors and outdoors, for instance beside and in a swimming pool, as it is not prone to become slippery when it’s wet, making it safe for everyone to stand and walk on, even when exposed to the elements. The fact that it doesn’t stain easily or need a great deal of maintenance after being sealed is also a great advantage in this case, as outside flooring is exposed to the elements, and swimming pool maintenance is a great ordeal in itself that includes a number of chemical processes, which in turn could damage a material which is less resistant.

Aside from that, there are several other decorative options that can be taken when laying new slabs of concrete, such as mixing different aggregates’ – the stones and other materials used to make concrete – or staining, even stamping the concrete, to create unique patterns or make it look like other materials, such as marble and granite, creating the same look for a fraction of the cost, which can be quite an advantage when working on a tight budget. Stained and stamped concrete floors look particularly stunning in the outdoors, especially when creating a patio or lounging area, where the minimalist, lounge furniture really allows the flooring to take the center stage, which is something to take advantage of, as it is the key to achieving the atmosphere you are aiming for.

As for interior spaces, concrete flooring generally gives a very modern look to any room, which can be a useful feature when redoing an older house or building, as it instantly updates the look of the space. It also works quite nicely with a minimalist décor, as it complements the bare elegance of a room, adding to the effect due to its shiny, uniform simplicity, as well as the futuristic look of chrome kitchens, where the prospect of easy cleaning tends to be a major point in favor of concrete floors.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-0352637538948260"
     data-ad-slot="9989522632"
     data-ad-format="link"></ins>

It is also worth noting that, thanks to its clean, sterile look, as well as easy maintenance and relative low cost, exposed concrete flooring is a very popular option for commercial buildings, such as malls, office buildings and even hospitals. Alas, since most of these buildings usually have a very modern, even impersonal atmosphere to them, exposed concrete floors tend to be a perfect choice, as they complement the general feel of the rooms perfectly.

Of course, for all its benefits, polished concrete does have its drawbacks as well. One of them is that it needs to be installed professionally, as the process of laying it down, adding the densifier and applying the correct grinding is quite a precise one, which takes time and skill to ensure a perfect result, as concrete is a tricky material to work with, and any misstep in the polishing process can end up ruining the whole slab.

Also, sealing is definitely necessary to avoid unwanted staining and preserve your new flooring as long as possible, as concrete isn’t naturally as resistant as stone, and it does need to be redone every couple of years to maintain the look and features of the floor, at the risk of losing its best properties if this small maintenance task isn’t performed in a timely manner.

Other drawbacks polished concrete flooring has are quite minor, such as easily showing imperfections like small cracks or naturally being a cold surface if not artificially heated, which may be deal breakers for some keen perfectionists, but should not sway your opinion unless you really are one of them, since the benefits which make polished concrete such a popular option at the moment largely outweigh them.
