White fantasy granite – also known as super white granite – is a very particular stone among the granite family, as it mimics the look of marble, another one of the most popular countertop stones, while achieving a much better resistance and durability.
The curious thing about this stone though, more than the fact that its white and gray veining allow it to pass as a marble substitute, is that white fantasy is not actual granite, but rather quartzite, a stone which is made from heated sandstone, creating a beautiful glossy finish, and possesses a good quantity of quartz minerals embedded in its slabs.
While it isn’t technically granite – there aren’t actually many white granite variations – quartzite is very similar, and thus considered to be among the granite family. What this means is that white fantasy quartzite is just as tough, if not tougher, than granite, and offers the same resistance and relatively low-maintenance needs as granite, while looking a lot like white marble.
However, while it is its main substitute, white fantasy granite is actually more expensive than marble. On the bright side though, it does not scratch or stain easily, especially once sealed – which is something that needs to be done every couple of years – and it does save you time and money on maintenance and replacements, especially as it isn’t nearly as prone to breaking or crumbling as marble.
It is the combination of all the qualities cited above that makes super white granite such an increasingly popular and versatile stone, as it is used in the same types of projects where homeowners would have liked to use marble, but end up opting for granite, for its superior resistance ability.
White fantasy certainly does make for a beautiful kitchen countertop, as do most granites, looking especially beautiful against dark wood cabinetry and chrome electronics, which form a modern, elegant look, it does also excel in other, less obvious projects, such as bathroom renovations and, oddly enough, fireplaces.
In fact, super white granite is the ideal option for those who dream of a white fireplace, but can’t imagine how it would work out, due to fear of staining. Well, white fantasy doesn’t burn or stain, and it is one of the easiest materials to clean one will ever find, so there should be no reason for it not to work, in reality.
At the end of the day, the increasing popularity of white fantasy quartzite is mostly due to its beautiful, somewhat unique look. However, unlike marble, granite is a resistant, versatile stone, in which it always pays off to invest, so it should continue to be a regular option for home improvement and renovation projects.
