Timber is one of the oldest building materials known to man. Ever since primitive cavemen saw the sturdy trunk of a tree we have been building with it.
Logs were the first type of timber used in construction. Early humans did not bother to cut and shape them (or they didn’t have the technical knowledge / tools to do so). And we managed fine for thousands of years using just raw logs. The love for unfinished and uncut timber has not subsided. With thousands of new log cabins being built in the USA every year.
Today we know much more about the properties of timber, what kinds are bendy, which kinds are strong, how long they will last, how long they take to grow. We know where and when we should use softwoods and what advantages they have. We know what hardwoods are and how they should be used, how and why they are better than softwoods in some situations (and why they are not in others)
The lumber industry is growing at an alarming rate due to our insatiable demand for its use in home construction and improvement. And we use it everywhere.
This section of pats color is dedicated to timber of all kinds that is used in home construction and interior design. We hope to guide you through facts and figures, to help you make the perfect choice of lumber for your room.
